Ranthambore National Park- A Peaceful Abode of Tigers!

It is one of the most renowned Wildlife tourist spots of India and the biggest National Park in Northern India. This park is located at a distance of 158 km from Jaipur in the Sawai Madhopur district (Southeastern Rajasthan).

Ranthambore National Park, which covers an area of 392 sq km and surrounded by other sanctuaries like Man Singh Sanctuary & Kaila Devi Sanctuary can be considered as a treat for many wildlife lovers and photographers. The park is majorly inhabited by tigers and is known as the best wildlife tourist destination of India to see the royal predators in its natural habitat.

Rules & Regulations:

Every Zoo, Sanctuary and National Park has their own rules and regulations for the safety of the inhabitants and the visitors. Ranthambore National Park too has some instructions to be followed by the visitors, which are:

  • Smoking, carrying of firearms, trekking or walking within the park is strictly forbidden.
  • Driving after the specified time and above specified speed is considered as illegal and liable to penalties.
  • Blowing of horns is restricted.
  • Vehicles are not allowed to go off the designated tracks.
  • Transistors or recorders are not allowed to be played in the park.
  • Littering within the park will also lead to penalties.
  • Shouting in the park is prohibited and talking has to be at the lowest.
  • Throwing stones at the birds and animals or disturbing/irritating/teasing them is strictly prohibited.
  • It is recommended to wear brown and green colored clothes inside the park.
  • The visitors are lead by the Wildlife Protection Act.
  • The authorities will not be responsible for any damage caused. Therefore, you should travel within the park at your own risk.

Zones:

Ranthambore is categorized into 10 different zones. These 10 designated safari zones are frequented by tigers, tigresses with their cubs, leopard, sloth bear and varied species of animals & birds, which attract tourists from across the world and boost tourism in Ranthambore. There is a specified limit for the entry of vehicles on each safari zone/shift in-order to prevent over-crowding in the areas with higher possibility of sighting.

Safari Timings:

You can enjoy the unique wilderness of Ranthambore on a Jeep (6 seater) or a Canter (20 seater). The timings for safari change with the seasons. Two trips are conducted every day to get the glimpses of Royal Bengal Tigers.

  • A morning trip from 7.00 A.M. to 10.30 A.M or an evening trip from 2.30 P.M. to 6.00 P.M can be enjoyed in the month of October.
  • A morning trip of 7.00 A.M. to 10.30 A.M or an evening trip of 2.00 P.M. to 5.30 P.M. is scheduled from 1st November to 31st January.
  • From 1st February to 31st March, the timing of morning trip changes into 6.30 A.M. to 10.00 A.M. and from 2.30 P.M. to 6.00 P.M in the evening.
  • The timings again get altered from 1st April to 15th May. The morning trip begins from 6.00 A.M. to 9.30 A.M and evening trip begins from 3.00 P.M. to 6.30 P.M.
  • The morning trip from 15th May to 30th June is conducted from 6.00 A.M. to 9.30 A.M. and evening trip from 3.30 P.M. to 7.00 P.M.

A Brief About Spotting Tigers

As soon as you enter the gate of the park, you will be eager to see the tigers but getting the glimpses of tiger is somewhat matter of luck. You can easily spot a tiger during the day time when it is busy hunting, stalking its prey, drinking water from the edges of lakes, relaxing on the rocky ruins of Ranthambore Fort under the sun or taking care of its little ones.

How to Reach:

Ranthambore National Park is at a distance of approximately 158 Km from Jaipur, in Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan, which can be easily accessed by different modes like air, rail and road. It is just 381 Km away from the capital city, Delhi.

By Air: Sanganer Airport in Jaipur is the nearest airport to the Ranthambore National Park. It has access to regular flights from the major cities of the world and India.

By Rail: The nearest rail head to Ranthambore National Park is Sawai Madhopur Railway Station, located 10 km away from the park. Then one can hire a bus, taxi or a cab to get there.

By Road: Public and private bus services connect the city with other major cities like Jaipur, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Ajmer and Jodhpur. Tourists visiting these cities can easily enjoy the wilderness of Ranthambore National Park.

Best Time to Visit: October to June is considered as the best time to visit Sawai Madhopur.
